5Truly amazingMar 29, 2011

I decided to get this as my first game for the 3DS and it does not disappoint! I can't believe how clear the graphics are and how the puppies and cats pop out at you. I started with a pug because I have one in real life, and I am dazzled by the similarities of this virtual pug to my real pug. Nintendo did a wonderful job on the mannerisms and poses of the dogs. I can't wait to unlock more breeds and find more presents while I take my Nintendog for a walk. Highly recommend this game, you will not be let down.

5Great game!Mar 29, 2011
By mommy2mylilangls
I just got my 3DS yesterday on release day. I bought 5 of the release games with it, one of them being this game. I have spent the most time playing this adorable game! The puppies are so realistic even if you don't have your 3D turned on! I have has so much fun teaching my new Shiba tricks, shopping for an awesome pink collar and food, entering competitions, etc.! I would recommend this game as the first game to buy if you are buying the 3DS for a 6-12 year old. This game is for all ages though! I am a 37 year old mom and bought it so my 8 year old daughter could play around with my new 3DS. I have spent hours more playing with the puppies then she has!

4The Basics and 2D vs. 3DApr 04, 2011
By Kamikaze_Breeze
If you've played Nintendogs before, expect much of the same thing. You start the game at the kennel, picking out your first puppy. You can choose between a Golden Retriever, Beagle, Shiba, Pinscher, Pug, Dachshund, Maltese, Great Dane, and English Cocker Spaniel. You can choose 1-3 colors of the dog (depending on what breed you pick) or you can let the game choose for you with the "surprise me" color. You have to get a dog first. Once you have a dog, you unlock the ability to get cats (once you earn enough money). The cats are Standard (with colors of solid, tabby, spotted tabby, and calico), Oriental (with colors of pointed and smoke), and Longhair (also with colors of pointed and smoke). In the case of both cats and dogs, once you pick the color you have three different shades or designs of that color to choose from.

The main point of this game is to simply take care of your pet. You feed it, give it water to drink, take it for walks, play with it. You practice for competitions (disc competition, lure coursing, and obedience trial) which get you money to buy supplies for your pets or to buy new pets. There are different shops for different things including pet supplies, accessories, interiors, secondhand, kennel, and pet hotel. There are also shops when you walk your pet. These shops have strange hours. Like the shops, there is also a park and gym (depending where you walk your pet) where you can practice for the competitions. There is also a pedometer function where your pet walks with you. You select pedometer, close your 3DS, put the game system in your pocket, purse, or hand, and walk. For every so many steps you take, your pet collects treats and other various things.

2D vs. 3D. The most noticeable 3D effect is when your pet jumps up and starts licking you. It looks really good with the paws on the screen and the flecks of slobber flying at you. If you're outside with your pet at night, the fireflies look really good in 3D too. Of course children under the age of six should be playing this game in 2D, and even in adults 3D can hurt your eyes after a while, so let me assure you that you won't be missing out if you only play the 2D version. The 2D looks great. Everything in the foreground is clear and crisp. The backgrounds look a little flatter, but you can barely tell. Everything still has depth even when not in 3D. (As a side note, do not use 3D in the dark. It will hurt your eyes.)

The game overall is 7 out of 10 (10 being the highest).

5Amazing!!!Nov 24, 2011

As the first game I played on my 3ds, I was truly amazed. The dogs are nearly photorealistic, and act much like real dogs. Training them is fun, they learn at their own pace, and slowly become more skilled the more you work with them. You get 9 breeds to start off with, the cutest being the Shiba Inu. I have noticed in my own game (I'm not sure if its an individual quirk or all are like this)that you can only earn up to 200 owner points per day. Getting many owner points unlocks certain things like new dog breeds in the kennel. You can have three dogs living with you at a time, and three at the pet hotel, so six total. If you decide you no longer want a dog, you can donate it to the pet hotel. Walking the dog is fun, you can control the dog somewhat by checking the leash. On a walk there are certain distractions you want to try to keep your dog away from, such as birds, trash, or fire hydrants. If you keep teaching your dog to stay away from these things, it will gradually become more obedient. Also, when walking, you may notice safety cones set up on the roadside. These aren't here simply to look cute. Their object is to weave your dog through them like weave poles in agility (hint: hold the leash low to exhibit optimal control over your dog - however this is still quite challenging.)If you weave succesfully through them, without moving any, an extra present appears for your dog to pick up. Presents are found at random during walks - except when you weave, then you get a present for sure. When walking there are several paths with interesting attractions on them. These are the paths:

Your Neighborhood: A basic neighborhood street with a BARC Botique shop on it that appears randomly, and signs on the sides leading to other paths. Sometimes the roadsign for SECRET PATH appears here.

Mountain Path: A pretty trail with a BARC Botique shop on it that appears randomly, a dog park, and signs on the sides leading to other paths. The dog park is essentially a big grassy field where you can practice for disc throwing competitions. Sometimes the roadsign for SECRET PATH appears here.

Seaside Path: A beachy road with a BARC Botique shop on it that appears randomly, a dog park, which is essentially a big sandy area where you can practice for disc throwing competitions, and signs on the sides leading to other paths. Sometimes the roadsign for SECRET PATH appears here.

Downtown Promenade: A city street with tons of distractions, and a cafe where you can order snacks for you and your pup. There is a resident cat who is stylish and popular here. Also, there is a dog gym, where you can practice for lure coursing competitions, and signs on the sides leading to other paths.Sometimes the roadsign for SECRET PATH appears here.

SECRET PATH: Well, it's a secret, right?

These are all the paths. Besides walking the dog, you can go shopping. Here are all the stores:

Secondhand Store: Here you can sell unwanted items, or trade materials your dog got as presents walking.

Pet Supplies: Here you can purchase essentials, such as food, water, treats, brushs, shampoo, and basic toys.

Accessories: Here you can buy doggie clothes, such as collars, bows, and glasses.

Kennel: Here you can purchase a new doggie.

Interiors: Here you can remodel your home, or buy furniture to suit it.

Pet Hotel: Here you can board dogs, pick them up, or donate them.

In addition, you can compete in competitions. There is Lure Coursing, where you dog chases a squirrel-like lure in a race to the finish line. Disc Catching, where you simply throw a disc for your dog to catch, which takes a lot of practice in the dog parks, and obedience, where you simply get out an AR card, and command the dog all the tricks its learnt so far. Teaching tricks is easy, you perform a simple motion, associate it with a word or words three times, and the dog remembers it forever. Easy. You can only teach three tricks a day, and enter each competition twice a day.

I think it is interesting to add as a footnote that there is supposed to be a robodog you can adopt at the kennel, if you rack up enough owner points, and gather up enough materials to trade for a robodog certificate at the secondhand store. You can see videos of it on youtube, but I haven't unlocked it for myself, so I cannot say truthfully I know there is such a thing as a robodog. Most likely there is, though.

THIS IS A REVIEW FOR ALL THREE VERSIONS ON NINTENDOGS+CATS

First, I would like to clarify that this is NOT an cat game and it's mainly dogs. The cats are "unlockable" after you've showed to the game that you are responsible enough to take care of you dog(s). The cats are a lot harder to "get close to" but they requires much less cares and attentions. It dosen't matter which version you get, you're going to get the same cats.

Why did I made a review for all three versions? Well, because THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE!!! REALLY!!! All dogs and cats are unlockable in each games. The only "difference" is the items that are avalible in the games (meaning different colors). However, you can get the items via "street passing" with other players. ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW IS WHICH DOG YOU'RE GETTING FIRST.

The toys in this game really shows off the 3d effect here (EX: freesbie, boomerang, helicopters). The dogs in 3d are ADORABLE! This game may seems easy, but a deep strategy game is hidden under the paws (not literatly). For example, you might be surprised how much better your dog can do with proper training and a good night sleep. I would like to point out that where you're petting your dog really matters (DO NOT MESS WITH THEIR TAILS!!!), they bites. 0_0

This game make people smiles, and just when you think you're done with the game... A NEW ITEM POPS UP! (hint: mario kart ;D and mario house)

GAMEPLAY AND CONTROL: 8 out of 10
GRAPHIC AND SOUND: 9.5 out of 10
REPLAY VALUE: 7 out of 10
OVERALL: 8 out of 10
